“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

WONDER

There is wonder in the world around us if we could only see it. As some people grow older they lose the wonder of life. In reality, life is wondrous and dazzling, but somehow the enemy manages to darken the eyes of some adults so they fail to see the awesome wonder of life and creation.

Children don’t seem to have that problem; every day to them is a day of excitement and interest. The Hebrews themselves lost the wonder and fear of the living God and were evicted from the land they had been given. Part of the reason for the ejection was for taking on the superstitions of the surrounding nations—as if men have to inject some wonder and excitement into life because what God has created isn’t good enough! It is exactly the same reason people take drugs; they’re not content with life as God has made it. Christians take life as it comes to us, one day at a time. We don’t have to take chemicals to add something to our tired lives; the joy of the Lord is our strength. Jesus refused to take the wine mixed with gall that the soldiers offered Him, even though it was given as a soporific drug to blunt the edges of a condemned man’s pain. Once He tasted it and realized what it was, He refused to drink it even though He had great thirst (Matt 27:34). Christ took life head on, whether in suffering or comfort. The Apostle Paul learned the same lesson: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” (Phil 4:11).

If we come before the Lord in quietness and humility he will reveal his wonders to us. “He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate” (Ps111:4).

Amazingly some people can’t see the wonderful works of the Lord, we pray that all may see his wonders, and thank him that we have been able to see his awesome deeds. And then we are told to tell others of God’s magnificent feats. “I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds” (Ps 9:1).

We tell of God’s wonderful deeds in nature, in the world, in our own lives as a testimony, in other people’s lives, we tell of his wonderful deed of bringing salvation to the world. We declare his wonders for there are so many wonders to behold. We are not surprised that “his name shall be called Wonderful” (Isa 9:6).

Jesus walked around the land doing wondrous deeds that amazed men and women. Our salvation was certified to us by wonderful signs that Jesus performed. “Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the paralyzed man, ‘Get up, take your mat and go home.’ Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man” (Matt 9:5–8).

“God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will” (Heb 2:4).

We praise God for our wonderful salvation and for his wonderful deeds in our lives. Praise the Lord.
