“To God belong wisdom and power” (Job 12:13).
POWER AND WISDOM (Pt 2)
We saw previously how Solomon had wisdom but lacked power, and Samson had power but lacked wisdom, both wisdom and power are found in Christ.
Sometimes people may call a successful businessman a “self-made man”, as if his own efforts have given him all that he has. People who have faith in God see that “all we have” comes from him and without him we are nothing.
“He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing” (Isa 40:23).
The highest of men and their peoples “are regarded as dust on the scales” (Isa 40:18). It is God who gives and takes away.
Daniel, through the Spirit, could see this plainly, He said, “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his” (Dan 2:20).
Everything we have is from God’s gracious hand, and as David said when he gave to God, “we have given you only what comes from your hand” (1 Chron 29:14).
We are undeserving of God’s manifold blessings, but through Christ we have access to the many good attributes that come from God.
God gives of his wisdom and power to those who reach out to him in humility.
“Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding” (Prov 4:7).
Daniel called out to God and he received his answer. Daniel said, “I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors: You have given me wisdom and power” (Dan 2:23).
Daniel received power in the form of hidden knowledge, God gave Daniel this powerful tool that he may show the king there is a God in heaven who “gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Dan 2:21).
We who live in this day and age can still call out to God for power and wisdom. We have the wonderful gifts of the Holy Spirit available to us—supernatural gifts of power and wisdom.
Men and women of God seek God and are used by him, his wonders to perform. We take our place in the vast army of God’s children who are ready to move forward in wisdom and power. We need both wisdom and power and God is able and willing to share these qualities with those who are trustworthy servants of God.
Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these” (John 14:12).
Move us on dear Lord, in your power and wisdom, we pray.
