“They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers” (Revelation 17:14).
CALLED, CHOSEN AND FAITHFUL
First, we must be called. We know that, “many are called, but few are chosen” (Matt 22:14). Many are called, but how many respond in a way that pleases the Lord? We have been called, praise God.
Peter who saw what happened to Judas first hand said, “Therefore, brothers, be diligent, rather, to make your calling and election sure” (2 Pet 1:10).
Judas had been “called,” but would not be among the “chosen”. Only those who respond to Christ’s call sincerely and humbly will be chosen. And a part of being “chosen” is showing ourselves to be “faithful”.
The man in the parable who had received five bags of gold brought the other five that he had worked for. “Master,” he said, “you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.” His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matt 25:20–21).
We notice the word “faithful”, he had done his master’s will and worked on his master’s behalf.
However, there was another man who had also been called, and given one bag of gold. He failed to move forward with his work and buried what he’d been given in the ground. This servant had not shown himself willing or faithful, and he was assessed as “worthless” by the master and sent outside.
There is a war being waged against the Lamb, so the Lamb will be aided by those at his side who are called, chosen and faithful.
A trustworthy servant is always going to be helpful to his master: “Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters” (Prov 25:13).
But the servant who is slack and non-concerned about his master’s work is like smoke to the eyes. “Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him” (Prov 10:26).
Those who are called and chosen are faithful to their Master, because they have seen their Master at work himself and know that he too is faithful. He is a faithful friend who sticks closer than a brother. We pray that we too will be called, chosen and faithful to our wonderful Saviour - Jesus Christ our Lord.
